St. Francis Courier

Yay! I just found out that an article about the fundraiser is going to be in the June issue of the St. Francis Courier! I hope that people will see the article, have a better understanding of the need, and will want to help!

Containers!

So, today I went to the dollar store and found some materials to use! Yay! I bought 8 large water buckets that can go anywhere where a lot of people would have access to them. I also bought many smaller tupperware containers for individuals to collect change. I am planning on labeling them and then cutting a hole in the top. On that note, if anyone knows where to put the large ones or if anyone wants a small one please let me know!

Chump Change for Pump Change

Hi everyone. As you know I, Nyki McNamee, am in love with the continent of Africa.

I can actually only say that I'm in love with South Africa because it's the only place I've been....
but, I am pretty sure I would love the rest of Africa also.

At the end of April I was a youth leader at Districts Youth Conference in Rochester, MN. At one of the seminars we went to the speaker collected enough money after a few months to build a well.

Since then I've been thinking about the idea a lot. I'm at the point right now where I'm thinking, as I follower of Jesus Christ, why wouldn't I do this? I could extend it even further and say to anyone else who doesn't have my beliefs.... why not? In a country where we have billions of dollars in spare change floating around that means absolutely nothing to us... why not exchange that for human life?

When I was watering my lawn the other day it hit me that there are people in this world that have never experienced drinking water that is as clean as the water I was feeding the grass in my yard. How often do we as Americans really stop and think about that reality? If enough of us thought about that reality could we build wells for the 1 billion people who don't have access to clean and safe drinking water? Ok, my thoughts are now getting a little too big... but I would like to start with one well.

I plan on putting jars all over the St. Francis/Andover area.... really anywhere they will let me and I'm just going to collect change.. as simple as that. Maybe a couple days of setting a booth up or something, but for now it's a pretty basic idea. I searched my house for change and collected a whole smaller sized jar full. If everyone did that, could we meet our goal? If anyone is interested in helping me disperse jars or if you just have some change you want to give let me know.

So those are my first thoughts. Right now I'm trying to collect some people who are also passionate about providing clean drinking water. I will need help with things such as: donating change collecting jars, decorating the jars, contacting companies to see if the jars can be placed there, and brainstorming with me.

If you don't live in my area but would still like to be involved you can definitely help. You could collect change in your area and then after cashing it in you could send it to me to add to the fund.

Every little bit helps, and I would love it if you would help at least a little bit.
